Fossil Rock

Fossil Rock

Last weekend, we met Fred and Amy at Fossil Rock in Washington.  We planned on climbing and then camping.  After a couple false starts, we finally found the trailhead, only to discover it was closed to recreational use due to fire hazard.  We figured they meant other recreational uses, and not us, so we continued anyway.  We hiked for about 45 minutes before we got to the rock, then it took at least another 30 minutes to figure out the routes were on the other side of the rock.  One of our false starts took us up a very steep washed-out slope, where we literally had to walk from tree root to tree root to get to the top.  The view was amazing.  Coming down, we ran from tree to tree.  It was quite the adventure.  The climbing was fun and we all had a good time – Juniper too.  I lead another route – it was rated a 5.7 and I wasn’t too nervous on lead.  Fred and Amy really took to climbing and did a fantastic job.  Poor Mike was the belay-monkey.  Afterwards, we couldn’t find a camp site so we had a picnic dinner and then went home.  We’re excited to have discovered the new rock and hopefully we’ll return soon.

On Sunday, we went to Costco with a list of items to buy.  We ended up bringing home a couple items not on the list – two bookshelves.  We couldn’t help ourselves.  They are beautiful and we got a really good deal.  The living room looks so much better without that block/board bookshelf that I made in college.

This weekend, we relaxed.  Yesterday, we finished staining the shed, cleaned up the yard a bit and Mike caulked around the bathtub in the master bath.  We finished off the day with a glass or two of wine.  Today wasn’t much more exciting.  I went for an 8 mile run.  We went climbing.  Mike finished the caulking in the bathroom and now we’re watching football.  It was nice to have a mellow weekend.
