Our final full day in NY

Our final full day in NY

Today was play day in NY.  It was also supposed to snow, which we were pretty excited about.

We decided to go see the Statue of Liberty.  We made reservations on a boat cruise to see her.  As we left the hotel, it had just barely started snowing.  We went to Junior’s for a ginormous breakfast and then walked to the pier to catch our cruise.  It was snowing quite a bit more on our walk to the pier.  As we approached the waterfront, we were a little north of our intended pier and saw a large naval ship with a Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, the spy plane, on it.  We were pretty excited and went up an overpass walkway to see it better.  As we crossed the overpass, we noticed the ship and Blackbird were actually part of a museum.  Silly us.

The boat cruise was fine.  It was snowing quite a bit so we couldn’t see the Manhattan skyline but we saw Lady Liberty quite close.  She is beautiful.  Mike and I were really enjoying the weather.  By the time the cruise ended, the wind was blowing and the snow was really coming down.

We decided to go to the Sea Air & Space Museum and check out the ship and Blackbird plane.  The museum was cool.  We saw a number of interesting planes and helicopters on the flight deck.  We also saw the Enterprise space shuttle, which was also housed on the flight deck.  We toured the command room of the U.S.S. Intrepid aircraft carrier and we toured the Growler, the first nuclear launch submarine.  That was interesting.

We walked back to the hotel and were quite wet from the snow and slush but decided to go to lunch to a place south of Times Square.  By the time we sat for lunch, we were very cold and wet.  However, we decided to walk the mile back to the hotel because it was almost the same amount of time as taking an Uber or the subway.  Overall, we walked over 8 miles today and spent quite a bit of time outside in the snow. After a nap and rest, we went to dinner at our favorite restaurant again.  The waitress recognized us – d’oh!  It was a very good day.
