Hi.

This is the blog of Michael and Vicki Smith.

La Malbaie, Quebec

Mike and I spent a week in northern Quebec at a FDCC conference.  Outside of the resort at the Fairmont where we stayed, they only spoke French. I dusted off (ok, it required a backhoe to dig out) my high school/college French. But we successfully navigated a couple French-speaking only dinners. At a couple places, as soon as I said bonjour, they started speaking in English. That tells you about the quality of my French.

We enjoyed a beer and cheese tasting event sponsored by the FDCC. They have great cheese and OK beer. We both liked the local beer with the cow with crazy (drunk?) eyes.

We kayaked a river at the Baie St. Peter. It was a little long, and I got tired but the little “rapids” were a lot of fun. And it was great to be kayaking again. We had little boats, which were zippy but tended to be thrown about in the current.

The FDCC had a Cirque du Soleil themed night because we were in the town where it was born. The acrobats were fantastic!  Mike didn’t love the social events but he was a good sport.

Our trip home has been a bit of a challenge (luggage issues in customs) but we’re going to make it. We’re excited and ready to be home.
