Fun Weekend with the Hagg Lake Mud Run

Fun Weekend with the Hagg Lake Mud Run

It’s been a great weekend! We made a huge Hungry-Ranchers breakfast on Saturday and spent the entire day together. Mike bought us chocolate and beer for Valentine’s Day. We had to take it somewhat easy because I had the 15-mile Hagg Lake Mud Run in Sunday.
On Sunday, we decided I would go to the race alone because it could take 3-3.5 hours and Mike had a lot of work. It was a beautiful day and had dried up some since last weekend’s downpour but the trail was still fairly muddy. At about mile seven, I started struggling but I got my third and fourth wind and finished. It was a fairly tough run for me. The best part of the race was the finish. I heard someone say “Good job, Vicki” as I ended but thought they just knew my name from my bib number. But, it was Mike! He surprised me and came out to see the end of the race. It was an awesome surprise! I love having him at the end of runs!

It was my fifth Mud Run, and I finished in 3:06:42, which is faster than the two most previous races and slower then my first two races. The weather plays a large part in the timing.

We went to lunch at the McMenamins Grand Lodge and came home. Iris was happy to see us. After showering off the layers of mud, we went to Wendy and Tom’s to meet their new puppy Bart and introduce him to Iris. They wanted Iris to help train him how to interact with adult dogs. We had a very nice visit with them and got some ideas for our backyard. It was a great weekend.

Note for next year’s Mud Run: Buy new, lighter trail shoes. Consider small, light gaders.
