Farewell to Hawaii

Farewell to Hawaii

We ran some errands Friday morning before we had to go to the airport. One stop was Costco to return a pair of shorts and to look for a new shirt for Mike because he had nothing clean-enough to wear. Mike didn’t see anything he particularly liked so he bought a bag of 6 white cotton shirts, which will have a role later in this story.

We saw the Walking Man again. We saw him walking around Kona almost every time we left the condo. He is a stooped, older man who shuffles along with a walking stick that he carries and does not use.

The airport was hot and had outdoor seating. We were happy to get seated on the plane. But then, TSA messed up the baggage screening and had to remove all luggage from the plane, re-screen it, and then reload it. We were told it would take 45 minutes- it took over an hour. We only had an hour lay-over in Seattle and the chances we’d connect with our flight to Redmond looked slim. The plane was hot and there were two babies surrounding us. They can really screech. After we finally took off, the rest of the flight was uneventful except for the babies and theirs mother’s continuing complaints. We were happy to land in Seattle.

Once we landed, we turned on our phones and learned that our connecting flight had already left. Stuck in Seattle for the night. We didn’t let it bring us down. We got a good deal at a Best Western through the airlines. The hotel was nice. The bed was excellent. We got free breakfast and an informative trip back to the airport due to our shuttle driver. Luckily, we packed Mike’s new shirts in the carry-on so we both have clean shirts to wear today.
