Hi.

This is the blog of Michael and Vicki Smith.

The Weekends of August

On Friday, we had a date – kinda. Pioneer Courthouse Square asked Mike to photograph Flicks on The Bricks. So, Mike came downtown around 6 pm and we went to dinner at Henry’s. Then, we went to the Pioneer Courthouse Square. A sponsor of the program handed out free popcorn, which I took advantage of even though I had just ate dinner. I sat on the stops and watched Mike work. People started showing up and I watched them too. It was kinda funny. There were all types of people attending the show. RedBull had an installation art piece along 6th Avenue. Around 8:30 p.m., Mike and I checked it out. The piece was awesome! There were 50 photos related to extreme sports displayed on 25 10’X10′ displays that were lit interiorly. I really enjoyed it. Mike returned to work and I watched the beginning of the old Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory. It was a really fun evening.

Saturday morning, Mom and Dad Smith came to visit. We went to a running and walking store so Mom could get speed-walking shoes. Mike needed a new pair too. I couldn’t resist, so I bought a new pair too. I bought Adidas instead of the Brooks that I usually wear. We went to Sherwood because Mom and Dad had read that it had won some award and were interested in seeing it. We stopped for dinner at a bar/restaurant that looked old and sketchy. We weren’t overly optimistic but were very pleasantly surprised. The food was excellent and the staff were very good. Afterward checking out the town, we drove back home and visited. Later, we went to dinner at Chevys. Yum! It was a very nice day.

After Mom and Dad left this morning, Mike went to work to finish a project that he was stressed about. He finished it and returned home around 2:00 p.m.

I reluctantly went for a run this morning, intending it to be only 3 hours or so. I was supposed to run 20 miles but wasn’t in the mood to run that long. I wore my new shoes and hit the streets. I had to run locally because the truck is sick. We think the starter is shot. I had planned to run towards the climbing gym and check out a house that we found on John L Scott’s webpage. I took a couple side routes and discovered an interesting neighborhood and park. I got lost and it was a good thing Mike bought me the Garmin because I needed to use the compass to get home. I ended up running almost 22 miles and, boy, am I paying for it now. It was a good run.

Prior Weekends
Last weekend: We house-hunted and ran errands. Nothing really exciting. We actually had to clean most of the weekend because Pam (our housekeeper) wanted to show her husband our house to see if they were interested in buying it. Cleaning sucked!

Two weekends ago: We went to Canada with Marlo and Ryan. We stayed with Adam in Vancouver Thursday night. That morning, Mike and I woke early and we went for a walk in Vancouver and along the beach. We saw some professional volleyball players warming up. It was a fun morning. We drove through Stanley park with Marlo and Ryan that day. Then, we went to Bowen Island and hung out with Marlo’s parents. They just built a big, beautiful house. We had a very nice dinner with them and played a game that evening. The next day, we went geocaching and found a number of caches. That was a lot of fun too. We had lunch at the Pub and then later had dinner at Adam’s house on the island. We went to the bar with Adam and drank too much. Mike and I actually danced. We drove back to Portland the next day. We had a real good time!
